Biometric-based driver authorization
for a secure petroleum depot gate entry.

A Biometric-Based Driver Information, Safety Awareness and Gate Entry Management System built for a Hindustan Petroleum Depot, automating and securing truck-driver entry.

OVERVIEW

Frostline Technologies developed a Biometric-Based Driver Information, Safety Awareness and Gate Entry Management System for Hindustan Petroleum Depot, designed to automate and secure the entry process of truck drivers and crew entering the depot.

The solution combines a Biometric Information Kiosk, automated gate/barrier control, Web-Based Admin Panel and Android-based display application.

1 · DRIVER REGISTRATION & IDENTIFICATION

Before entering the depot, the truck driver approaches the Biometric Information Kiosk installed at the entry gate. The driver can:

  • Register as a new driver/crew member.
  • Provide required identification information.
  • Register biometric details.
  • Access their existing profile if already registered.

For an already registered driver, the system directly proceeds to biometric authentication/authorization.

2 · BIOMETRIC AUTHENTICATION

For registered drivers, biometric authentication verifies the driver’s identity against the centralized database. The system validates:

Driver → Biometric Verification → Authorization → Safety Instructions → Gate Access

Only an authorized driver can proceed to the next stage of the entry process.

3 · SAFETY PLEDGE / DO’S & DON’TS

After successful biometric authentication, the driver is shown the required Safety Pledge and Depot Safety Instructions on the kiosk screen. The system can display:

  • Safety pledge
  • Do’s and Don’ts
  • Depot safety rules
  • PPE requirements
  • Fire-safety instructions
  • Vehicle safety instructions
  • Emergency procedures
  • Other safety awareness messages

The driver must read/acknowledge the required instructions before being permitted to proceed.

4 · AUTOMATED BOOM BARRIER CONTROL

Once the driver successfully completes the required biometric authentication and safety acknowledgement, the system sends an authorization signal to the gate-control mechanism. The boom barrier opens automatically for an authorized entry. This creates a controlled workflow:

Biometric → Verification → Safety Pledge → Authorization → Boom Barrier Open

Unauthorized or unsuccessful authentication prevents access.

5 · WEB-BASED ADMIN PANEL

Frostline developed a centralized Web-Based Administration Panel through which depot administrators can manage the complete system. The Admin Panel provides control over:

  • Driver/Crew Master
  • Driver registration details
  • Biometric authorization records
  • Depot safety instructions
  • Do’s & Don’ts
  • Safety pledge content
  • Gate-entry rules
  • Application content
  • Images
  • Videos
  • Display content
  • User/access management
  • Entry logs and records
6 · CREW MASTER

The Crew Master allows authorized administrators to create and manage driver/crew records. Information can include:

  • Driver/Crew Name
  • Employee/ID details
  • Vehicle information
  • Contact details
  • Biometric registration status
  • Authorization status
  • Validity
  • Active/Inactive status
7 · DO’S & DON’TS MANAGEMENT

Administrators can centrally manage the safety instructions displayed to drivers. They can add, modify, activate or deactivate:

  • Do’s
  • Don’ts
  • Safety instructions
  • Pledge content
  • Awareness messages
  • Emergency instructions

This ensures that the safety information displayed at the gate remains current.

8 · ANDROID-BASED KIOSK APPLICATION

The customer-facing application is developed on the Android platform and runs on the biometric touchscreen information kiosk. The application provides:

  • Driver registration
  • Biometric authentication
  • Driver information
  • Safety pledge
  • Do’s & Don’ts
  • Safety awareness content
  • Acknowledgement mechanism
  • Entry authorization workflow
  • Boom-barrier integration
9 · CENTRALIZED ARCHITECTURE

The overall solution follows a centralized architecture:

Biometric Kiosk → Biometric & Driver Verification → Central Server / Database → Safety Pledge & Acknowledgement → Authorization System → Boom Barrier

The Web Admin Panel provides centralized control over driver records, safety content and system configuration.

10 · KEY BENEFITS

The solution provides HP Depot with:

  • Automated driver registration
  • Biometric-based identification
  • Secure and controlled depot entry
  • Digital safety awareness
  • Mandatory safety acknowledgement
  • Automated boom-barrier authorization
  • Centralized driver/crew management
  • Digital management of Do’s & Don’ts
