Frostline Technologies developed a White-Label Interactive Touch Screen Kiosk Application for JCDecaux, in collaboration with the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), deployed at bus shelters at 20 locations across Delhi. The solution provides citizens with a secure, controlled and user-friendly digital platform to access important web-based public services and information through a large-format touchscreen display.
The application combines an Android-based kiosk application, web-based Admin Panel, centralized content management system and secure website access controls.
The kiosk provides citizens with a large-format touchscreen interface designed specifically for public environments. The initial screen displays:
- Promotional videos
- Government/public information videos
- Images and banners
- Public awareness campaigns
- NDMC communication
- Image and video slider
- Configurable digital content
The content can automatically rotate when the kiosk is not being used. When a citizen touches the screen, the application provides access to the available services and websites.
The kiosk provides a centralized interface through which multiple authorized websites and web-based services can be accessed. The home screen displays configurable website/service icons. Each icon can represent an approved website, portal or public information service. When a citizen selects an icon:
Touch Icon → Full-Screen Website → Browse Information → Return to Kiosk Home Screen
Websites can be displayed within a controlled iframe/WebView environment, allowing the kiosk to provide access to multiple services without exposing the underlying Android operating system.
The solution was designed as a White-Label Kiosk Application, allowing the same technology platform to be configured for different departments, locations or organizations. The following elements can be customized through the Admin Panel:
- Organization branding
- Logo
- Background
- Theme
- Website/service icons
- Website URLs
- Images
- Videos
- Banners
- Welcome screen
- Content categories
- Display sequence
This makes the platform scalable for deployment across multiple public-facing locations.
Because the application is deployed in a public place, Frostline incorporated controlled browsing functionality. The kiosk does not provide unrestricted access to the internet. Administrators can define which websites and services are permitted. A Blacklist/Restriction Management feature allows administrators to restrict unauthorized websites, domains or content. The system can control:
- Allowed websites
- Restricted websites
- Domain access
- External links
- Navigation behavior
- Unwanted redirects
- Pop-ups
- New browser windows/tabs
- Access to unauthorized content
This creates a safer and more controlled environment for public use.
The Android application operates in a kiosk/lockdown mode, preventing users from accessing the underlying device. The application can restrict access to:
- Android home screen
- System settings
- Notification panel
- Other installed applications
- File manager
- Browser outside the approved environment
- Unauthorized URLs
- Device configuration
The objective is to ensure that the device remains dedicated to its intended public-information purpose.
Frostline developed a centralized Web-Based Administration Panel for managing the kiosk ecosystem. Authorized administrators can control the complete content displayed on the kiosk remotely. The Admin Panel provides management of:
- Images
- Videos
- Banners
- Website/service icons
- Website URLs
- Website categories
- Display sequence
- Home-screen content
- Organization branding
- Blacklisted/restricted websites
- Allowed websites
- Content activation/deactivation
- Kiosk-wise configuration
This eliminates the need for manual configuration of every kiosk.
The platform follows a centralized content-management approach.
Admin Panel → Central Server/API → Android Kiosk Application → Touch Screen Display
When administrators update an image, video, website, icon or restriction rule from the Admin Panel, the updated configuration can be synchronized with the deployed kiosk application. This enables centralized management of multiple kiosks.
The customer-facing application is developed on the Android platform and optimized for touchscreen kiosk hardware. The Android application provides:
- Full-screen interface
- Touch-enabled navigation
- Image/video slider
- Website/service icons
- Controlled WebView/iframe browsing
- Full-screen website presentation
- Back-to-home functionality
- Kiosk lockdown
- Restricted browsing
- Remote content synchronization
- Configurable branding
The platform can be configured to provide citizens with access to selected NDMC and other authorized public-service websites. The kiosk can therefore act as a digital citizen-service access point, allowing users to obtain information without requiring a personal smartphone or computer.
A major component of the solution is content governance. Since the kiosks are installed in public places and are accessible to users of all age groups, Frostline’s architecture provides administrative controls to ensure that only approved content and websites are made available. The Admin Panel provides a controlled environment where administrators can:
Approve → Configure → Publish → Monitor → Restrict
This provides NDMC with greater control over the information and online services exposed through public kiosks.
The Interactive Touch Screen Kiosk provides:
- Interactive citizen engagement
- Easy access to public information
- Multiple authorized websites from one screen
- Centralized content management
- White-label deployment capability
- Secure and controlled web browsing
- Website blacklist/restriction management
- Android kiosk lockdown
- Remote content updates
- Centralized management of multiple kiosks
- Digital display and public-awareness capability
- Reduced risk of unauthorized content access
“Frostline’s solution transforms a conventional bus-shelter display into a secure, interactive Digital Citizen Information & Service Kiosk, combining digital signage, touchscreen interaction, controlled web access and centralized content management in a single white-label platform.”
